Pro-life group protests at D.C. abortion clinic after releasing undercover videos of illegal practices

While Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell faces trial for the atrocities he committed in his abortion practice, the rest of the industry is doing equally terrible things and getting away with it, according to pro-life activist Lila Rose.

“We believe in human rights for everyone — human rights for the child in the womb, the child outside the womb, and true protection and medical care for women,” Rose said. “Not the brutality that goes on during these procedures.”

Rose’s group, Live Action, protested outside of the Washington Surgi-Clinic abortion facility on Wednesday, where Dr. Cesare Santangelo works. Santangelo, according to undercover footage shot by a Live Action investigator, admitted that he would attempt to save a baby born after a failed abortion — despite a federal law requiring doctors to do so.

“Technically – you know, legally we would be obligated to help it, you know, to survive,” the doctor said in the video.

But despite the legal requirement, he said he and his staff would not help the undercover investigator’s 24-week-old baby to survive if born alive.

“We would – we would not help it,” he added. “We wouldn’t intubate. It would be, you know, uh, a person, a terminal person in the hospital, let’s say, that had cancer, you know? You wouldn’t do any extra procedures to help that person survive. Like ‘do not resuscitate’ orders. We would do the same things here.”

The protesters on Wednesday called for federal and city investigations of the clinic and for the building’s owner to evict Santangelo and his staff.

While the protest at Washington Surgi-Clinic was peaceful, the clinic had called in members of the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force to make sure the protesters did not try to physically restrain anyone from visiting the clinic. The protesters were also required to keep the sidewalk clear for pedestrians.

Two undercover videos have been released so far, and Rose said that Live Action will unveil eight undercover videos in total. The third video release is scheduled for this week.
