With just six months to go before the November midterms, news coverage just barely touches the races that could change the makeup of the Senate and House of Representatives, and instead looks toward the distant future in 2016. And while Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart is sick of the presidential speculation, a probable matchup between two political dynasties sure gets him excited.
The duel, of course, is between presidential hopefuls former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. And these two politicians are currently leading the pack of favorites for a White House run, with any and every move they make fueling the fires of speculation.
“Yes. Clinton v. Bush,” Stewart quipped Wednesday during “The Daily Show.” “Thank God we fought a bloody war against England so that political power would no longer be consolidated in but one family, because, to my mind, two just makes sense.”
Stewart attempted to dissect the hidden meanings between former President George W. Bush’s musings of whether or not his brother, Jeb Bush, will run — but didn’t get very far.
“Let me get this straight, you don’t talk to your brother, but you are tracking his movements?” the Comedy Central host asked following George W. Bush’s comment that he noticed Jeb Bush was “moving around.”
While Stewart had trouble locking in Jeb Bush as a definite presidential candidate, things were a bit clearer for him when it came to Hillary.
“Not only does the universe exert influence on a possible Hillary run, but a possible Hillary run exerts influence on every event in the universe,” the comedian mused.
While Hillary and Jeb, though, are the leading favorites according to recent polls, Stewart was quick to remind Americans that there could be a dark horse in Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) … maybe.
“But it’s only 2014, and 2016 is already shaping up to be a lame remix. Is there anything out there for us to look forward to?” Stewart wondered.
Of course: 2020, 2024 and 2052, when Chelsea Clinton’s baby is eligible to run for president.
