“Speaking of stupid and mad men — Donald Trump,” Stephen Colbert introduced a segment on Wednesday’s episode of “Late Show.”
Colbert acknowledged that the Republican frontrunner has been having a rough week. His campaign manager is facing criminal charges, he himself is facing backlash for retweeting an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz, and he got into an embarrassing argument with CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper, who told Trump he was behaving like a 5 year old during a town hall on Tuesday.
While Trump was “busy being on every other channel on television,” Colbert invited the cartoon version of the billionaire on his show. He noted, the candidate has “turned into a cartoonish version of himself at this point,” anyway.
Almost immediately, the cartoon Trump claimed “he started it,” without Colbert even knowing who “he” was. Trump admitted that “he” could mean “anybody, whatever, they started. Unless it’s ‘Make America Great Again,’ in which case I started it. It’s very exciting. The best.”
The cartoon Trump continued to further the 5-year-old image by calling Anderson Cooper “a dumb dumb. He’s a stupid head, a total poopy pants, it’s sad.” Colbert called him “a little immature,” and the cartoon Trump responded with “I know you are, but what am I?”
Perhaps the best line was Trump reminding Colbert, “I’m rubber, you’re glue. I have a lawyer and I will sue.” He also claimed that his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, didn’t grab reporter Michelle Fields, “infinity,” which “settles it, it totally settles it. I settled it in the best possible way ever.”
Trump closed with how he would appeal to women voters, which involves “lady’s night at Club Trump.”
