1. “Why would we want to do that?”

CNN reporter Dana Bash asked Reid why he wouldn’t put his support behind a Republican spending bill that provided funding for National Institutes of Health, which helps children with cancer. Bash inquired of the Senate Majority Leader: If you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn’t you do it?

“Why would we want to do that?” Reid responded.

2. “Why don’t they get a life and talk about something else?”

During a press conference in September, Reid bashed Republicans for trying to defund Obamacare, accusing them of “playing silly games” and attempting to score “cheap political points.”

“Here’s a President who less than a year ago won an election by five million votes, five million votes,” he told reporters. “Obamacare has been the law for four years. Why don’t they [Republicans] get a life and talk about something else? People deserve better.”

3. “For lack a better way of describing this, it’s been a big waste of time.”

The Senate Majority Leader wasn’t a big fan of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) taking over the Senate floor to stage a faux filibuster. After Cruz wrapped up, Reid stood up before the chamber and denounced the Texan’s efforts.

“We all admire the senator from Texas for his wanting to talk. With all due respect, I’m not sure if we learned anything new,” Reid said. “For lack a better way of describing this, it’s been a big waste of time.”

4. Tea Party = “anarchists”

Reid slammed Republicans for being “anarchists” multiple times this year. In August, he accused members of the GOP of not believing in the government, likening them to “modern day anarchists.” He also posited that the party’s opposition to President Barack Obama might be because of his race.

In the fall, Reid again bashed Republicans, this time for slowing down a bipartisan energy bill.

“Of course, we’re diverted totally from what this bill is all about,” Reid said on the Senate floor. “Why? Why, Mr. President? Because the anarchists have taken over. They’ve taken over the House, now they’re here in the Senate.”

5. “My friend from Texas is like a schoolyard bully.”

Reid and Cruz certainly weren’t BFFs this year, with the Senate Majority leader taking shots at the “very junior” — so says Reid — Senator from Texas on the reg.

“My friend from Texas is like a schoolyard bully,” Reid said of Cruz during debate over whether or not the Senate and House would go to conference over the budget. “He pushes everybody around and is losing, and instead of playing the game according to the rules, he not only takes the ball home with him but changes the rules. That way no one wins except the bully who tries to indicate to people he has won. We’re asking Republicans to play by the rules and let us go to conference.”

6. “I will vote for assault weapons ban because maintaining law and order and saving lives is more important than preventing imagined tyranny.”

Reid was one of many Democrats in the Senate who tried to push forward harsher gun control this year. He justified his stance by accusing Second Amendment supporters of been worried about “imagined tyranny.”

“There conspiracy theories are dangerous and they should be put to rest,” he said during remarks on the Senate floor.

7. Hurricane Katrina was “nothing in comparison” to Hurricane Sandy.

The Senate Majority Leader was among a multitude of politicians who criticized the aid response to Hurricane Sandy, which struck the East Coast

“The people of New Orleans and that area, they were hurt but nothing in comparison to what happened to the people in New York and New Jersey,” Reid said. “Almost 1 million people have lost their homes.”

He lated apologized for his remark, saying he “misspoke.”
