Done with school for the summer and looking for a job to fill your time and pockets? Good luck with that.
According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, 80 percent of Americans think it will be difficult for young people to find summer jobs — even though 94 percent of Americans also say it’s important for youth to have those jobs.
Unsurprisingly, more Republicans than Democrats said it would be very difficult for young people to find jobs, 45 percent to 39 percent. Seems like Democrats are in denial about just how bad the economy still is under President Obama.
But it’s actually the youngest demographic — 18-39-year-olds —that is least likely to say finding a summer job will be extremely difficult. That demographic also least likely to say that having a summer job is very important.
And sorry recent grads — the views about your job chances are even worse, with 88 percent of Americans saying it will be difficult for you to find jobs. As the April youth jobs report from Generation Opportunity showed, the outlook is bleak, even for those with advanced degrees. And May’s jobs numbers probably won’t be any better.
The Rasmussen poll was conducted on May 30-31 and surveyed 1,000 adults. The margin of error was +/- 3 percentage points.
