[WATCH] House Republican Conference’s new web video on student debt interest rates

The House Republican Conference released its latest web video Wednesday, which calls on Senate Democrats to act now to avoid having the federal student loan interest rate double on July 1.

In the video, entitled “Don’t Double My Rate,” several students express their worry and frustration over the pending increase while acknowledging that House Republicans are the only ones who have taken action on the issue. Last month, the chamber passed H.R. 1911, the Smarter Solutions for Students Act, which would prevent interest rates from doubling in July by permanently pegging the rates to government interest rates.

“Don’t use politics to double my rate,” a male student says in the video.

The video also features several Republican members of Congress explaining H.R. 1911, including House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington and North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx.

“The House has done it’s job, it’s time for the Senate to do theirs,” House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said during a press conference on student interest rates Tuesday.

Earlier this month, the Republican National Committee also released its own web video on student loan interest rates, refuting President Obama’s claims that Congressional Republicans aren’t properly dealing with the issue.
