At least one of the Clintons is appropriately addressing crises.
During an interview at the Clinton Global Initiative University Conference in Coral Gabels, Florida, Saturday, former President Bill Clinton addressed the recent controversy surrounding the Clinton Foundation’s acceptance of millions of dollars in donations from foreign governments.
Clinton called the organization’s relationship with foreign donors a “good thing,” explaining that the donations the foundation has received will help programs it funds “run forever.”
“I think it’s a good thing,” Clinton said at the University of Miami, according to MSNBC. “For example, the [United Arab Emirates] gave us money. Do we agree with everything they do? No, but they’re helping us fight ISIS.”
“You’ve got to decide, when you do this work, whether it will do more good than harm if someone helps you from another country,” the former president continued. “And I believe we have done a lot more good than harm. And I believe this is a good thing.”
Clinton emphasized the fact that the foundation discloses the donations and encouraged the public to form its own opinions about the funds.
“My theory about this is disclose everything, and then let everyone make their judgements,” explained Clinton. “So I’m going to tell you who gave this money, and you can make your own decisions.”
Unfortunately, Clinton did not specifically talk about the 2010 donation the foundation received from the Algerian government that was not approved under Obama administration guidelines.
Though Bill appeared willing to address the chatter surrounding the foreign money — more than half of those that have given over $5 million to the Clinton Foundation are foreign donors — Hillary avoided the topic when she delivered her own remarks at the event Saturday.
Neither did the former secretary of State comment on her use of a private e-mail account during her years at the State Department, for which she has been unendingly critiqued in the media over the past week.
Perhaps later, Hillary will decide to address the Clinton Foundation’s foreign donors in a tweet.
