In a great big heaping pile of irony, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has just issued a “breaking” news email to supporters claiming that Republicans are in “all-out panic mode” because House Republicans have recently tapped some major financial resources to secure the majority in November.
“We just got word that Speaker Boehner is in all-out panic mode,” the email begins. “In the last 24 hours, he’s extracted $3.2 million from his Republican Members to save their teetering House majority.”
This obviously poses a problem for Democrats, who wish to retake the House so that a newly reelected President Obama would have a greater shot at ramming through legislation in his lame-duck second term.
The anxiety-laden email states, “President Obama needs a Democratic majority in the House — and we can make it happen… Donate $3 or more before tonight’s ad buy deadline to win a Democratic House for President Obama.”
But for Democrats, the irony of an email with a subject “all-out panic” has sailed right over their pretty little heads.
It was Democrats who sent out a panicked email in August about infamous one percent billionaire David Koch who was *gasp* granted access to the floor of the Republican National Convention in Tampa. (Koch was not only a Republican donor, he was also a Romney delegate from the state of New York – so his presence on the floor of the RNC was not only welcome, it was warranted.)
It was Democrats, via Obama’s reelection team “Obama for America,” who begged for $3 donations in order to attend the president’s birthday party in August.
It was Democrats who sent out a fundraising email using scare tactics about Obama facing another “Dudley do-nothing Tea Party Congress.”
It is Democrats who sent out desperate emails about being outspent by their Republican counterparts, even citing Michael Moore who said, “get used to saying President Romney.”
The Republicans’ ability to secure $3.2 million in fundraising to ensure a political majority is not panicky… it’s reliably smart politics.
Or as Charlie Sheen would call it: “Winning.”
