Influential liberal activist Van Jones hammered fellow progressive during the final keynote address of the Left’s annual blogger’s convention Netroots Nation Saturday night for throwing a “pity party” for themselves over losing the Wisconsin recall.
“We do not have the right to sit here and feel sorry for ourselves and LET THESE PEOPLE DESTROY OUR COUNTRY!” Jones screamed at the audience, pointing out that the audiences’ ancestors were treated much worse and had to fight much harder for their freedoms.
Jones, a 911 Truther and cofounder of liberal activist group Color of Change, most recently engineered the Left’s attacks on the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) that caused the group to stop advocating for state Voter ID and Stand Your Ground laws after a number of the group’s high-profile donors pulled their support from the lobbying group.
Jones chastized attendees for spending more time complaing about losing in Wisconsin than they spent fighting.
“Let’s be honest here,” Jones told the group. “Where were the national Democrats? Where were a lot of us?”
However, Jones continued to purport claims that the Left was outspent in Wisconsin, exaggerating previous lies that Democrats were outspent 7-1 in the recall to 8-1.
Jones’ speech, which marked the close of the conference, was a notable departure from previous comments made by Netroots Nation panelists over the course of weekend claiming a myriad of reasons for Democratic candidate Tom Barrett’s humiliating loss to Republican Governor Scott Walker last Tuesday night. Previously at the conference, speakers had blamed the loss poor online organizing, Nazi-like propagandist network Fox News and influential conservative financiers the Koch brothers.
The only Netroots speaker who appeared to comprehend that the main entity to be blamed for Democrats’ Wisconsin recall loss was Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.). Ellison said on a Voter ID panel earlier in the day that unions – which launched the recall effort against Walker – didn’t turn enough of their members out to vote.
