Not sweet at all: Austrian baker frosts 9/11-themed cake

This will surely leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

A bakery owner in Vienna, Austria, named Thomas Kienbauer baked a cake modeled after the 9/11 terror attacks in order to express his frustration with his country’s governing coalition.

From RT News:

Thomas Kienbauer, the owner of the Alexander patisserie in Vienna, created an unusual cake that depicts the New York twin towers in the colors of the Social Democrats (SPÖ) and the conservative People’s Party (ÖVP), two parties in the current governing coalition in Austria.

The planes flying into them represent the opposition: the Greens and the right-wing Freedom Party (FPÖ). Another plane atop one of the towers, representing the one that crashed into the Pentagon, embodies Austrian liberals.

Unsurprisingly, people freaked out on social media, labeling the cake “awful” and “unbelievable.”

Kienbauer told the newspaper Kronen Zeitung of the concoction, “Sometimes, you have to present an exaggerated view of the situation if you really want to make a point.”

However, the baker insisted that he wasn’t trying to offend anyone but rather wanted to prompt Austrians to reflect on their country’s political climate.

According to Fox News, Kienbauer’s mind baked up the idea after a patron likened the date of this year’s Vienna election, October 11 or 10/11, to that of the 2001 terror attacks.

The baker may have already caught heat from Austrians, but Americans will undoubtedly be even more angry about the sugary mess.
