Actress Olivia Wilde is “excited” by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
The film star, who campaigned for then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008, expressed her enthusiasm for the “political discussions” that result from election season during a recent interview with The Daily Beast.
“It’s great when everyone starts talking about what they believe in,” Wilde explained. “It makes me so excited for the movement that is a part of that and young people participating and volunteering and canvassing — this is the stuff that I really get excited about. I think Hillary is a really exciting candidate for so many reasons but she has a lot to prove to a lot of people.”
The actress commended Clinton for the “tremendous amount of work” she has accomplished since her failed bid for the Democratic nomination in 2008, wholeheartedly throwing her support behind the former secretary of State.
“The fact that she feels the plight of women and girls as the most important issue of the 21st century is a huge reason why I’m supporting her,” Wilde declared.
She deemed it “cool” that Clinton announced her presidential campaign via social media, spotlighting the former first lady’s effort to reach out to young Americans plugged into the age of the Internet.
The actress does, however, foresee some road bumps in Hillary’s pursuit of the White House.
“I think where she’ll face difficulty is with Wall Street,” Wilde surmised. “They’re afraid of the rhetoric she’ll use in her campaign and I think she’ll face a lot of pressure from her campaign to tone that down because of the donations they’ll receive from different banks. So it’s her responsibility to understand her base and that many of her supporters are further left-leaning than she is.”
While the actress couldn’t conceal her excitement for Hillary, she also followed in the footsteps of many progressives by expressing her desire for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president.
“I think it’s really positive that people like Elizabeth Warren are voicing the concerns of people demanding Wall Street reform,” Wilde explained. “You know, I think it’d be great if Elizabeth Warren ran too and then everybody had to have these really difficult discussions about that.”
“My dream is that Warren would be [Hillary’s] V.P., but that’s not happening in a million years,” the actress added. “My ideal society!”
Dare to dream.
