A basketball analyst once called the swoosh of a made basket ‘string music‘, but he didn’t mean it this literally.
A group of NBA stars teamed up to promote the league’s Christmas Day games and special-edition uniforms by doing a rendition of “Jingle Bells.” Seems basic enough — until you consider that the players’ instruments were their jump shots and bells attached the nets of five different hoops.
With the aid of a green screen and some inventive editing, All-Stars (L-R) Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, James Harden and Steve Nash shot and made baskets in a carefully timed sequence that sounded the melody of the classic holiday tune. As a behind-the-scenes video showed, the players didn’t shoot simultaneously, but rather took their turns individually and timed out their makes so that the final, edited product was “Jingle Bells” in perfect rhythm.
NBA great LeBron James closed things out with an emphatic dunk, which is a pretty typical fashion for him to finish affairs.
“Please tell me the camera was on,” he joked at the end.
It was — and the proof is below. Check out the video “Jingle Hoops,” as well as the ‘video behind the video.’
