Recently, Donald Trump appeared at a fundraiser for Chris Christie’s campaign debt. Christie had endorsed Trump in February, which Stephen Colbert noted for Friday’s The Late Show amounted to how Christie “stood behind him wishing for the sweet embrace of death.”
Trump also spoke for Christie at Thursday’s event, noting that neither of them are eating Oreos anymore after Nabisco has left Chicago for Mexico. “Damn, it has gotta hurt to be called fat by fitness model Donald Trump,” Colbert suggested, reminding the audience that the event was at a fundraiser for Christie, where friends and family were present. “Can you imagine what Trump’s best man speech would be like,” he wondered.
Colbert took the chance to address Christie, who he was sure was at home “in an Oreo sleeve shame spiral.” Despite Christie’s “commitment to Trump,” Colbert encouraged him to “not let him treat you like this,” telling Christie “you’re beautiful the way you are” and that “no one should fat shame you, especially at a New Jersey fundraiser,” especially if the state bird is the sausage.
As Colbert summed up, “Chris Christie you can do better, and God I would do anything to mean that.”
