“Lacked diversity”: University censors, cancels Ben Shapiro’s speech — YAF pledges to host anyway

A ‘PC principal’ has struck again. A college president is imitating the South Park character by shutting down debate and free speech — because it lacked diversity and political correctness.

Young America’s Foundation reported on Monday that California State University Los Angeles President William Covino has cancelled a speech by conservative writer Ben Shapiro because it “lacked diversity.”

“After careful consideration, I have decided that it will be best for our campus community if we reschedule Ben Shapiro’s appearance for a later date,” Covino said in an email to YAF. “So that we can arrange for him to appear as part of a group of speakers with differing viewpoints on diversity.”

Shapiro said that this is the height of campus fascism and the clamping down of free speech at universities.

“This is what the climate of campus fascism has wrought: jackbooted students who believe they can strong-arm the administration into shutting down dissent, and an administration willing to shut down that dissent to kowtow to these precious snowflakes,” Shapiro said to YAF. “The campus left are not just cowards, they’re totalitarians. We’re not going to stand for it.”

YAF stated that canceling the event just days before it was set to take place is a clear violation of students’ rights — and plan on hosting an event with Shapiro on campus with a camera crew.

CSULA has had plenty of liberal speakers that have not been cancelled on including Dr. Cornell West, Alia al-Saji, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Serene Khader, Angela Davis, and Tim Wise.

The clamping down on free speech and demands for diversity are only seem to happen when a conservative is speaking.
