On Sunday, ABC did its duty as a national news outlet by spotlighting precisely why 2014 “didn’t go exactly as planned” for Hillary Clinton.
Reporter Jonathan Karl reflected on the multiple blunders in 2014 that garnered Clinton negative press, from her “dead broke” comments to her outrageous speech fees exceeding $200,000 to her interview with The Atlantic during which she criticized President Obama’s foreign policy.
Hillary became infamous for her demanding $225,000 speech contract with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for a speech she delivered at the school’s foundation dinner this past fall.
As Karl pointed out, Hillary had to clarify her statements on her family’s alleged debt and Obama’s foreign policy strategy. And, when it came to the “dead broke” comment, Clinton’s clarification simply dug her into a deeper hole.
ABC also harkened back to former Obama adviser David Axelrod’s comments a few weeks ago during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“What happened in 2008 was that Hillary’s candidacy got out in front of any rationale for it and the danger is that that’s happening again,” Axelrod had said. “You hear ‘Ready for Hillary.’ It’s like, ‘Ready for what?'”
