Though President Obama has received a lot of love as of late from his Hollywood admirers, the cast of the hit comedy “30 Rock” isn’t shying away from making jabs at him in their latest episode highlighting the impending presidential election. Set to air tomorrow night, the “30 Rock” preview shows real-life liberal and Obama-supporter Tina Fey, in character as Liz Lemon, floundering as she tries to come up with a single accomplishment for Obama’s first term in office.
During a tug-of-war scene with undecided voter Jenna Maroney (played by Jane Krakowski), Fey tries to persuade her to reelect Obama by saying, “What America needs is four more years of the stuff Obama’s been doing. Like… um…” at which point Lemon awkwardly tries to summon a reason, but is eventually cut off by Maroney.
Recently, Fey reportedly endorsed Obama at the Center for Reproductive Rights Inaugural Gala amidst some harsh words for male GOP contenders like Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, who she claims represent the “Mad Men” era. (“Mad Men” is a fictional television show set in the 1960s.) Her comments
But the sneak preview of the election-themed scene doesn’t let Romney or other GOP members off the hook, as the characters bring up Romney’s extensive wealth and Akin, who issued the unforgettable “legitimate rape” gaffe.
The clip begins with Jack Donaghy (played by Alec Baldwin) trying to sway Jenna into supporting Romney by saying, “Just one tweet from you to your fans and Romney wins! It’ll be historic! The first really really rich president.” Though Baldwin’s character is decidedly Republican , producers couldn’t help themselves but get in that little jab about Romney’s wealth… presumably to make him appear out of touch.
Lemon chimes in with her defense of Obama by saying, “Don’t listen to him [Donaghy]. What America needs is four more years of the stuff Obama’s been doing. Like… um…” clearly stumbling for any accomplishment to put forth. It is after this exchange that Jenna chimes in and says, “Look, I don’t’ know anything about politics, except never get on an elevator alone with Todd Akin.”
With only six days until the election and the final season of “30 Rock” winding down, apparently all bets are off and every political candidate (including liberal Obama) is fair game since the show really has nothing to lose as the series winds down.
