Jeb Bush is slimming down ahead of his likely 2016 bid for the White House.
The former governor of Florida has lost about 30 pounds on the Paleo diet since December, according to a report in The New York Times.
The diet — which involves largely eliminating starch, dairy and refined sugar — has Bush noshing on almonds for a high-protein snack and grilled chicken salads for a light, nutritious lunch. His Mexican favorites, like enchiladas and chilaquiles, are therefore off the table.
The likely Republican presidential candidate is supplementing his strict eating regimen with near-daily swims and jaunts on the treadmill. Bush has even been purchasing new clothes to compliment his new, svelte figure.
Having experienced the reward of results, Bush is sticking to his diet. During a recent dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manchester, New Hampshire, the Florida politician ordered a steak tips meal that featured pasta and garlic bread. Upon its delivery, aides expertly removed all the bread from the dish and Bush demonstrated discipline by ignoring the linguine.
Bush does, however, have his occasional indulgences, like a glass of wine or the few bites of blueberry pie he managed to sample during a separate event in New Hampshire.
One thing Bush won’t be indulging on? Chipotle.
