Vietnam veteran throws coffee at Westboro protester who was disrespecting the flag

A Vietnam veteran was arrested on charges over the weekend for throwing coffee on Westboro Baptist Church picketers who were dragging the American flag. But he says he’d do it again even if it meant jail.

When members of the Westboro Baptist Church showed up to picket at the funeral of Vice President Joe Biden’s son on Saturday in Wilmington, Delaware, Richard Pierce, 64, stopped by to make sure everything was “uppity-up” and there were no “problems,” according to USA Today.

Pierce, a retired U.S. Marine and Vietnam veteran, said he lost his temper when he saw one of the protesters dragging the U.S. flag on the ground. He said his only response was to throw his coffee on them

“So many people have died in defense of that flag. I don’t care who you are, you are not going to disrespect the flag. And if I have to go to jail to defend that flag, I’m going to do it,” Pierce told USA Today.

The Blaze reported that a police officer saw the encounter and arrested Pierce on disorderly conduct charges.
