Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg is taking her “Lean In” policies companywide.
Facebook announced Tuesday that it had adopted a $15 minimum wage for it large contractors, as well as additional benefits aimed specifically at women.
Sandberg said in a blog post that contractors and vendors who do a “substantial amount of work” for Facebook and who have more than 25 employees working for the social network would be required to uphold the new standards.
In addition to the new minimum wage, contractors must offer to at least 15 paid days off and a $4,000 “new child benefit” if they do not already offer paid parental leave to both men and women.
“Taking these steps is the right thing to do for our business and our community. Women, because they comprise about two-thirds of minimum wage workers nationally, are particularly affected by wage adjustments. Research also shows that providing adequate benefits contributes to a happier and ultimately more productive workforce,” Sandberg wrote.
“We are committed to providing a safe, fair work environment to everyone who helps Facebook connect the world. This is an important step forward in this work for us.”
