For those paying attention to last night’s vice presidential debate, it quickly became clear how the Obama administration views the situation in Iran. “Let’s all calm down a little bit here,” Biden said laughingly when asked about how close Iran was to receiving a nuclear missile.
Calm down? Joe Biden may have misspoke again, but the American people expect and deserve an answer with some substance from the vice president when our nation is facing the closest thing this country has seen to a nuclear attack since the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960s. It is exactly this type of passive mindset that is not only threatening our national security but also making Israel, our only ally in the Middle East, turn away from us.
The kind of deceptive language Biden used last night has been commonplace the past three years in this administration as they try to turn stories from negative to positive for the sole purpose of their own political gain.
Take for example the line that Vice President Biden said last night about the economy that has been constantly proven false by fact checkers. “The private sector has created 5 million jobs over the last 30 months,” he proudly proclaimed, all while skirting the fact that unemployment is still at 7.8 percent. Case in point: deception is the lifeblood of the Obama administration.
But there is no conceivable way to spin the story on Iran. Americais in the middle of a foreign policy crisis and yet the administration takes no blame for the increased build-up of the Iranian nuclear program.
Not only that, but the administration can’t even get their story right when it comes to the extent of the Iranian program. Consider that in a 60 Minutes interview earlier this year, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that “It would be sometime in around a year that they would be able to [have a nuclear bomb].”
The American people deserve the truth for once during this presidency. From the tragedy in Benghazi a month ago, to the secrecy behind the ATF’s Fast and Furious debacle, it’s clear that this administration doesn’t believe in transparency, and it is becoming evident that the American people will never get it.
Is Iran very close to getting a nuclear bomb?
Ask this administration and you will get every answer imaginable. The only thing that is clear cut is that when it comes to foreign policy under President Obama, the United States has been reduced to a laughing stock. With the future of our country both economically and militarily in doubt, we need people in the White House who will actually own up to their mistakes and level with the American people.
Sadly, it was evident within five minutes of the start of last night’s debate that this current president and vice president aren’t the ones who should be in those positions.
