LeBron James could always take his talents to the White House

The rumor mill is swirling about news that Miami Heat star LeBron James will opt out of his contract with the South Beach team, meaning he would become a free agent come July 1. Will the Bulls bring him to Chicago, or could the Rockets rake in the small forward? He might be better of taking his talents to Washington, and I’m not talking about the Wizards.

LeBron is nearly 30 and has 10 years in professional basketball under his belt. Why not trade his uniform in for a real career, like, say, a position in President Obama’s White House?

He’s basically already passed the interview with flying colors: LeBron helped Obama promote the Affordable Care Act earlier this year, indicating that the hoops star may have been pondering a move to D.C. as early as March. He also appeared in a video in January with his teammates to spotlight Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign. Ray Allen’s getting really old, and Dwyane Wade is looking injured; perhaps they’d like to work for the president as well.

What’s more, James has been an Obama supporter from the get-go. He donated a whopping $20,000 to the Obama campaign back in 2008 when he was a Cavalier. That was over 0.1% of his salary for the 2008-9 season in Cleveland. No, LeBron is definitely not a bandwagon fan; he’s someone the president could trust.

LeBron James could be exactly what the Obama administration needs at this very low point. He could use his strength to lift Lois Lerner’s trashed hard drive out of the IRS’ recycling bin, or referee the imminent Benghazi battle. Maybe he’d perform better in the White House press briefing room than Josh Earnest did on his first day.

“Any way I can help the president, that’s pretty cool,” LeBron told Bleacher Report earlier this year. That sounds like a job acceptance to me.
