Republican groups release ads targeting crucial Obamacare demographic: Young people

By all accounts, the rollout of Healthcare.gov has been a massive flop. And now Republican organizations are capitalizing on that failure with new videos targeted at the Affordable Care Act’s most crucial demographic: young people.

For his signature health care law to succeed, President Barack Obama needs millions of healthy, young Americans to sign up, in order to offset the costs of health care for older adults. But buying into Obamacare is a bad deal for many young people, who will often face premiums they can’t afford, even with promised tax subsidies.

And Republican organizations are now waging an Internet war against the law.

Both YG Network and the Republican National Committee have posted YouTube videos this week that are designed to appeal to young people — and mock the launch of the online exchange system.

In the YG video, first in a series called “High Tech,” a boss brings in an ancient computer for a young employee to use. At the end of the clip, the video cheekily encourages viewers to fax the White House to ask for a delay to the individual mandate.

The RNC videos mimic the once-popular Mac vs. PC commercials and poke fun at Healthcare.gov’s flaws, showing the differences between the private sector and Obamacare.
