Dems looking to ‘overturn’ the First Amendment

In recent decades pushes to amend the Constitution have come from the right, but not this time. A group of left-leaning organizations and members of Congress are pushing an amendment to change the First Amendment to prevent independent campaign expenditures in the wake of the 2010 Citizen’s United decision.

The Supreme Court decided in the case that corporations have the right to spend unlimited amounts of money on campaigns and elections, which has outraged the left.

Citizens United President David Bossie told CNSNews.com that those including Sens. Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders along with groups like Public Citizen are “a posse of radicals” who are trying to overturn the First Amendment.

“They want to create a 28th Amendment to overturn the First Amendment,” he said. “That’s really what the essence of this discussion here is today.”

Bossie sees this as a transparent effort by left-wing agitators to preserve their traditional fundraising advantages over Republicans.

“We always knew the Democrats didn’t like the Second Amendment,” Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform,” told Red Alert Politics. ” They  never liked the  freedom of religion bit in the First Amendment and now they plan to make it official: they don’t like the rest of the First Amendment either.”
