A new study from Case Western University shows millennials self-identify their generation as “narcissistic” — and other generations agree.

While most Americans already likely agreed with this assertion, this is solid academic research proving it. The given summary of the study says it all:

“So-called millennials consider their generation the most narcissistic ever. Older generations agree—but think the narcissism goes even beyond what millennials admit.”

Joshua Grubbs, a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at Case Western Reserve University, conducted the research on millennials (born between 1980 and 1994) and found that while millennials admit their generation may be the most narcissistic ever, they individually despise the label.

How do we know they despise the label?

Grubbs performed a mean, yet hilarious experiment on the millennials he studied. He had them take a personality test, then measured how they reacted when he told each of them the test said they were “narcissistic.”

And of course, Grubbs — a millennial himself — had them rate their feelings using emojis.

Which emojis did they select?

Being called “narcissistic” triggered the millennials. Grubbs said, “millennials experience more anger, frustration and sadness over the label than other generations.”

:'(

So, are all millennials narcissists?

The research indicates that this string of self-obsession may be closer to “individualism,” yet Grubbs admits, “on the whole, people of my generation probably are more narcissistic than in past generations.”

For the sake of the future, Americans should hope millennials’ perceived — and now measured — narcissism will mature into individualism. With millions of them flocking to support socialist (collectivist) Senator Bernie Sanders for president, that may be a tall order.
