Comedian Jon Stewart slammed former Vice President Dick Cheney on Monday, mockingly dubbing him the “Wilford Brimley of torture” for his stance on waterboarding.
In the wake of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s decision to declassify a report on the “enhanced interrogation techniques” used by the CIA during the Bush years, the Daily Show host criticized Cheney’s continued defense of the actions used to extract information from detainees.
“He’s like the Wilford Brimley of torture,” Stewart said, before giving his best impression of the actor’s voice. “‘Hi, this is Dick Cheney for waterboarding. It’s the right thing to do.'”
Brimley is perhaps best known for his serious commercials on diabetes, which have been widely parodied and mocked due to the actor’s mispronunciation of the disease as “diabeetus.”
Naturally, Stewart also brought up that Cheney had accidentally shot his friend during a hunting excursion, using that incident to color the former VP as someone who can’t be trusted. He concluded that Cheney was living in denial.
The show host then directed his ire at former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, accusing him of being “f***ing proud” of putting distance between the Bush administration and the use of what Stewart sees as torture.
