Paul Ryan now more popular on social media than VP Biden

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), who Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney named as his vice presidential pick on Saturday morning, is now more popular on facebook than sitting Vice President Joe Biden.

As CNN first reported, the Paul Ryan VP facebook page now has nearly double the “likes” of Biden’s page, with 675,000 likes compared with Biden’s 356,921 likes. CNN also note that more people were talking about Paul Ryan than Obama on facebook this weekend (which is no surprise considering the unexpectedness of Romney’s announcement).

Ryan is also beating Biden in twitter followers as well with 112,113 followers to Biden’s 108,527 followers.

In case you were wondering, the majority of Paul Ryan VP’s fans on facebook are not starry-eyed females hoping to see shirtless pics of the relatively young politician. Only 37 percent of the new page’s fans are women, while 63 percent are men.

With conservatives already on the war path to taking back twitter from the Left, it’s clear that Ryan’s going to have a strong army of supporters ready to defend him online leading up to the presidential election, including during the highly anticipated vice presidential debate.

Updated to reflect increases in Ryan’s and Biden’s social media following.
