Obama thanks Katy Perry for ‘spreading the word’ about Obamacare

President Barack Obama thanked singer Katy Perry for promoting his signature health care reform law on Twitter to her 41.5 million followers.

Perry re-tweeted a message on Sunday from President Obama encouraging young people to enroll in the health insurance exchanges that will launch on Oct. 1.

“If you’re one of millions of young Americans w/out health insurance, you can get affordable coverage starting Oct. 1,” said the tweet on Obama’s account to 35.7 million followers.

The post links to healthcare.gov which allows individuals to find out if they qualify for a federal subsidy to purchase health insurance under Obamacare.

“Thanks for spreading the word #ROAR,” said a tweet in response to Perry on Obama’s Twitter account, which is managed by Organizing for Action. “Roar” is a reference to Perry’s latest single.

Perry responded by tweeting, “Happy to do my part, PREZ!”

Singer Jason Derulo has also tweeted about the health care law to his 2.2 million followers.

“2night the #VMA’s, 2morrow #marryme released on iTunes…who can tell me what’s dropping Oct 1? Hint: go 2 http://healthcare.gov,” Derulo wrote.

Last month, the Obama administration met with celebrities who have agreed to help promote the law including singer Jennifer Hudson and actress Amy Poehler.

Representatives for Alicia Keys, Oprah Winfrey and Jon Bon Jovi reportedly attended the meeting as well.
