Obama fan Joel McHale to play conservative TV anchor on X-Files reboot

Comedian Joel McHale has just landed a guest-starring role on Fox’s special X-Files reboot, and he’ll likely be giving conservatives a bad rap.

McHale, who currently stars in Community and hosts The Soup on E!, will play conservative internet news network anchor Tad O’Malley on The X-Files, which will premier next January and span six episodes, Deadline reports.

As a member of liberal Hollywood and a big fan of President Obama, McHale will likely portray conservatives both inaccurately and negatively on the special series.

The comedian, who hosted the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, praised Obama in an interview with The Daily Beast earlier this year for his humor.

“It’s almost unfair that he is who he is, and he’s the leader of the free world and such a smart man, and on top of that, he can nail a joke,” he said of the president’s humorous speech at last year’s event. “It’s like getting in a guitar fight with Eddie Van Halen if Eddie Van Halen also happened to be a star NFL player and hosted ‘Meet the Press.’ Obama is just one of those special people.”

McHale, who is the first guest star to commit to a role on the Fox reboot, will act alongside former X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson who will, of course, reprise their roles on the show as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
