How Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood won over Chris Kyle’s dad for making ‘American Sniper’

The father of the late U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle was wary about the making of “American Sniper,” but MailOnline reports that he was won over by the face-to-face assurance of the film’s star and director that they wouldn’t do his son’s memory wrong.

Wayne Kyle told the news outlet that Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood paid him a visit in his Texas hometown prior to filming to learn more about Chris, the movie’s main character and man who has been called “the deadliest sniper in U.S. history.” As Kyle recalled the encounter, he said he issued a stern warning to Cooper and Eastwood about the film — “I told them I would unleash hell on them if they did anything to disrespect my son” — but he was persuaded to trust them as a result of their overtures.

“I told Mr Eastwood I was not happy that a film was being made about my son, but they were very respectful and told me they would tell the truth.

“They both looked me in the eye and told me they would not do anything to harm my son’s reputation.

“I liked them both. The fact that they came to Texas to meet with me showed they were serious about what they were going to do.”

The movie is slated for limited release Christmas Day and has earned generally positive reviews from critics. The favorable ratings have praised both Eastwood’s direction and Cooper’s portrayal of Chris Kyle.
