America is no longer “the land of the free and the home of the brave” — it’s now the “land of the free and the home of the gay,” according to Lady Gaga.
The pop singer sang her own version of the national anthem at New York City’s gay pride celebrations on Friday night, modifying the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ to fit her gay rights agenda.
It was the Fame Monster’s first appearance since she cancelled her world tour 5 months ago due to a hip injury and was a fitting reintroduction to the spotlight for the “Born This Way” singer.
“I would like to thank everyone from the Supreme Court to every legislator and political leader that has ever stood with us,” Gaga said, according to US Weekly, referring the SCOTUS’ recent decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8. “I am so fortunate to have been welcomed by all of you into the LGBT community … The further we are able to reveal and share our lives, the further we move into the hearts and minds of other Americans.”
The 27-year-old recording artist went on to sing the modified version of the national anthem to the crowd of LGBT supporters, adding in a few gay-friendly lines.
“And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that the flag was still there,” Gaga sang, waving a rainbow flag. “Oh, say does that star-spangled banner of pride yet wave, over the land of the free, and the home of the gay.”
While disrespectful to America’s founders, the singer’s alteration to the national anthem isn’t trifling compared to her other controversial actions in support of the LBGT community.
Gaga frequently channels her inner male ego to “manipulate the visualization of gender,” and last November she stated the Pope’s definition of marriage didn’t matter.
