Over the past couple months, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius made big promises about the rollout of Obamacare on Oct. 1. And in the two weeks since its launch, few of those promises have come true, a fact pointed out in a new Republican National Committee video.
The video, called #FireSebelius, juxtaposes Sebelius’ promises with reality: the extreme flaws in the online Obamacare enrollment system.
“User friendly, easy to read, easy to understand, pretty interactive,” Sebelius said of the site back in June.
In the wake of the implementation failures, Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) asked Sebelius to resign and former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called for someone to be fired, saying the launch of Obamacare was “embarrassing.” Fox News correspondent Ed Henry asked current White House Press Secretary Jay Carney on Tuesday if Sebelius has the confidence of President Barack Obama.
“The Secretary does have the full confidence of the President,” Carney replied. “She, like everyone else in this effort is focused on our number one priority, which is making the implementation of the Affordable Care Act work well. People are working 24/7 to address the problems and isolate them and fix them, when it comes to the website and enrollment issues.”
Carney stressed that there were people, nationwide, who had been able to enroll in the new healthcare plans, giving anecdotal examples of success stories.
But despite Carney’s success stories, there seem to have been far more reports of the online system’s failures.
