Republicans Need to Man Up

Republicans claiming it will hurt our chances of winning in November if we focus too heavily on the contraception issue need to man up.

Catholic Hospital administrator’s consciences are being violated…and we shouldn’t “focus too heavily on this issue?” Am I hearing this correctly?

This move by the Obama administration is a grievous violation of freedom of conscience and this is a completely winnable argument in realm of public opinion.

According to a Gallup poll released on Christmas Eve, 78 percent of Americans say they are Christians. Nearly eight in 10 Americans have been moved by their conscience to be devoted to a religious denomination. The White House has given Republicans a low hanging fruit.

We must take advantage of this, not just to win an election in November but because it is our duty to stand up for the rights of others. We are the party of freedom, driven by the Tea Party, which has once again reminded us that Life, Liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness are unalienable rights.

In 1776 when these rights were being violated by a tyrant, a minority of men stood up and ratified a document, which if the war was lost, would surely lead to their death. Blood was shed for these rights. Husbands, brothers and sons were lost to their mothers for these rights. And now we look at the Obama administration and say “But it will hurt our chances to win if we focus too much on that.”

We need to work on our messaging. We need to persuade the 78 percent of Christians in this country that if one group’s conscience is freely violated it is only a matter of time until theirs will be. We need to stop retreating at the first sign of media opposition. We need to stand with those among us who are intentionally being made into polarizing figures by the media. We need to fight back. We need to man up.
