Nothing could sum this up better than the subject of the painting itself: “America.”
George Zimmerman is auctioning off original artwork on eBay that has an asking price of more than $100,000 as of Tuesday evening. The piece, made with “regular household latex paint” on stretched canvas, is an American flag in blue tones with words from the Pledge of Allegiance metaphorically organized atop the stripes:
“Everyone has been asking what I have been doing with myself. I found a creative, way to express myself, my emotions and the symbols that represent my experiences,” Zimmerman writes on the eBay listing. “My art work allows me to reflect, providing a therapeutic outlet and allows me to remain indoors 🙂 I hope you enjoy owning this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
(Apologies for the smiley. It’s there in the interest of preserving the full quotation.)
Zimmerman signed the message under his name, and his brother confirmed the validity of the posting and painting to a Florida television station. Zimmerman also uploaded a picture of him holding the artwork to the listing’s webpage.
The auction appears to conclude at the odd time of 9:55 and 26 seconds PST on the morning of Dec. 21. It has received 98 bids as of this writing, the most recent for $99,966.
