Do Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have some sort of secret backroom deal?
“Of course not. Who’s going to tell Ron Paul what to say,” Romney said, laughing, in response to a question from Fox News’ Neil Cavuto’s Fox News this afternoon.
Cavuto asked Romney point blank if there is any truth to Santorum’s claims that he and Congressman Paul are in cahoots after Santorum made it clear on Saturday at a Tea Party rally in St. Clair Shores Michigan that he thinks something fishy is going on between the Romney and Paul camps.
“The coordination that I felt at that debate was pretty clear. I felt like messages were being slipped behind my chair. It’s pretty remarkable that in 20 debates, Ron Paul never attacked Mitt Romney.”
Santorum’s theory is starting to get some traction. Progressive political blog, ThinkProgress, jumped on Santorum’s conspiracy theory yesterday, publishing a study showing Ron Paul had attacked Santorum 22 times during the debates but had never said a bad word about Romney.
Judging by Romney’s facial expression while answering Cavuto’s question, he was probably telling the truth – no grand conspiracy to uncover here.
