Lena Dunham: I never had an abortion, but I wish I did

Lena Dunham’s foot and mouth must be dating because the two are almost inseparable.

The millennial HBO actress and self-proclaimed “abortion rights activist” said that she wished that she could have had an abortion. She continued further by saying that by not having one, she carries a stigma about abortion. Dunham, who has taught her sister that the pro-life movement is the “anti-choice” movement, has also made light of abortion in the past by dressing up as an abortion doctor for Halloween.

In her latest comments, Dunham is essentially wishing that she could have the option of killing her own child just to gain legitimacy for a cause that people already see as a grotesque act.

Whatever your views are on abortion, people should know that this is not an issue to take lightly. The people, who Dunham “advocates” for, are probably not wishing to get an abortion just to get one. I assume these people have a reason behind partaking in this painstaking act.

Some of the individuals who get an abortion aren’t even so lucky to choose. Many times, women are pressured or forced by their boyfriends, families, or the people who sexually abused them to kill their pre-born babies. Some women don’t get the “choice” that Dunham wishes she had, and she fails to realize that.

If Dunham is truly “pro-choice,” then she should advocate for the people who don’t get a choice. A “choice” goes two ways. For her to support death, she should also advocate for the option of life. If you are going to be pro-choice, you need to realize there are two options in that realm of decisions. If you don’t realize that, then you are truly the anti-choice option.

In contrast, the pro-life movement is not anti-choice, it is simply a movement that advocates for both the mother and the child. It is a movement that sees every life as precious, born and pre-born. It is a movement that cares about the well-being of the mother and when advocated for effectively, gives the mother additional options, like adoption. It is a movement that sees the studies about the psychological harm that abortion has on women, and seeks to prevent that harm. The pro-life movement is the movement for, not against. It is the movement for the sanctity of all life. It does not make tough situations any different by changing the events of the past. But, instead, it gives hope for the future. The pro-life movement offers not just a choice of life or death, but a pathway to something better.
