Sanders’ voters head for Spring Break partying: Will his turnout suffer?

Bernie Sanders may have a bigger problem than the DNC’s super delegate system.

Spring break is coming, and many of his biggest supporters will be traveling to Mexico, Florida, and other spring break locations — instead of organizing and voting on their campuses.

It’s no secret that Sanders dominates when it comes to the youth vote. For the last three states, Hillary has lost badly among this key demographic. When it comes to the primaries occurring during spring breaks, Sanders could have a problem getting out his voters.

The Sanders campaign is aware of this concern, as well as their overall uphill battle to win the nomination.

Politico spoke to Sarah Lukowski, a graduate student at Ohio State and a Sanders volunteer. She is trying to get students to vote on March 5 through car pools and bus rides.

“I don’t know how we’re going to get thousands of people out there,” she said. “We’re going to try our best, but it’s a real challenge.”

Getting out the vote is part of campaigning; it’s just a little more difficult this time when the Sanders campaign is competing with Spring Break.

Another issue that absentee voting is either difficult for students to do, or it’s not even available, like in Idaho and Hawaii. In those cases, shouldn’t something be done? Perhaps the state be lobbied to change those policies.

Sanders may be negatively impacted by the spring break primaries, but he’s going to be negatively impacted in many other ways this season. He is, after all, running against the DNC-favored candidate, Hillary Clinton. But at least he knows that and is putting up a fight.
