Why Obama won’t watch cable news

President Obama doesn’t watch cable news in order to keep “a healthy distance” from outlets that feature “the political fight of the day,” according to former White House press secretary Jay Carney.

Carney told CNN’s Brian Stelter that Obama gets his news from the web, and is a “voracious” reader of sites likes the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Politico, and CNN and MSNBC’s websites.

He is “aware” of Fox News, although Carney made a point of not saying he read them.

Carney said Obama “doesn’t hyperventilate about political crises of the moment. He takes the long view.”

“You don’t want, and I don’t think any of us should want as citizens, a White House that governs by cable news or governs by Twitter,” he said.

Obama has been widely mocked for being late to hear news, like security flaws at the Benghazi consulate or problems with Healthcare.gov.

But at least he’s “aware” of his options.
