Likely GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush said during a Q&A in Miami Beach, Florida, Sunday that a billion-dollar presidential campaign isn’t necessary to win the White House.
“I don’t think you need to spend a billion dollars to be elected president of the United States in 2016,” Bush said, according to The New York Times.
“I don’t think it’s necessary if you run the right kind of campaign,” the former Florida governor added. “You don’t need to have these massive amounts of money spent.”
Though he might not be dropping the billion bills, his opponent likely will. After all, both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama hit the $1 billion mark during their presidential campaigns in 2012.
And Bush, should he secure the Republican nomination for president, will undoubtedly be facing Hillary Clinton. Considering she pockets $300,000 for one-hour speeches and receives $14 million book advances, it’s not hard to imagine that Hillary’s campaign will be anything but “dead broke.”
But, as Bush’s comment suggests, money won’t buy you the White House.
