On Monday night, Democrats running for the DNC Chair met at George Washington University to discuss their vision for the future of the party, and it didn’t include Middle America.
All seven candidates clearly embraced the social justice principles typically found on college campuses. Forget about winning back white working class voters. They have every intention at alienating anyone who doesn’t have victimhood status.
During a discussion of Black Lives Matter, Sally Boynton Brown, the executive director of Idaho’s Democratic Party, stated that the Democrats were too prejudiced. She thinks Dems needed to do a better job of listening to minorities and shutting white people up.
“My job is to listen to the issues, my job is to listen and be a voice and shut other white people down when they want to interrupt,” Brown said to loud applause. “My job is to shut other white people down when they say, ‘oh no I’m not prejudiced, I’m a Democrat, I’m accepting.’ My job is to make sure that they get that they have privilege.”
Nothing like a little identity politics that excludes a majority of the country to help a party grow.
Brown had previously said that “facts don’t matter to people anymore, we have to connect with their emotions.” Obviously, that didn’t include white voters feelings.
Not to be the outdone by a white woman, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison felt the need to remind the audience that he was a black man. Harrison said that if he leads the party then “black lives will matter because I’ve been a black man all my life.”
Former Secretary of Labor Tom Perez touted his endorsement from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who supported him because he fit their identity politics and delivered his remarks in both English and Spanish. Hey, being bilingual helped Tim Kaine get the VP nod.
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley went a step further and suggested the party should stop spending money on corporate media and just hire thousands of young Latinos.
Keith Ellison, who’s been on an apology tour for Anti-Semitic statements and connections made in his past, said we should target Latinos with the sole purpose of turning Texas blue.
All seven candidates demanded that the DNC must increase their diversity in racial hiring, saying the party needed to more for non-whites.
Despite their claims of wanting to have a 50 state strategy, they clearly were abandoning all hopes of ever winning over white working class again. From here on out, Democrats are playing all identity politics all the time.
