After a two-week hiatus, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show on Monday night, well-prepared to continue batting for the Democratic Party in his smearing of Mitt Romney.
Stewart began the “Democalypse 2012” segment by highlighting the comparison between the name of Romney’s former company, ‘Bain’ and the name of the villain from the upcoming Batman movie, Dark Knight Rises, ‘Bane.’
Stewart was kind enough to play a video clip from the upcoming Batman movie, and added a voiceover of Mitt Romney to the Bane character, in an attempt to portray Romney as a bloodthirsty villain.
The segment then focused on the Boston Globe’s recent story regarding Mitt Romney’s official departure as the CEO of Bain Capital.
Stewart played a clip of Romney clarifying that while he still owned shares of the company, he was not involved in managing the company after leaving to manage the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Although Stewart admitted that everything Romney did was legal, he complained about what he perceived as a smokescreen situation, and claimed that Romney would bring that experience into the White House.
Embracing the common liberal tactic of attacking Romney’s wealth, Stewart asked Mitt Romney to explain his “offshore investments and tax havens.” After blasting Romney for denying that he was responsible for setting up the accounts, Jon Stewart told him to release more tax returns in addition to the two years he has already provided, saying, “Nobody gives a sh*t about those two years!”
Classy as always, Jon Stewart ended the segment by telling an outright lie about the horse owned by the Romney family, claiming that they received a $77,000 tax break, “to send [Romney’s] horse to the f**king prom!” In addition to being vulgar, Stewart simply did not gather his facts, as Mitt Romney only received a $50 tax deduction for the horse.
