DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz: ‘Voters agree with us’

Despite Democrats’ depressing losses in the midterm election, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is still insisting that the majority of American voters “agree” with her party.

Just before Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) officially fell to her Republican challenger in Louisiana, Schultz organized a meeting of state Democratic chairmen Friday in Florida to regroup after the midterms, according to the Palm Beach Post.

While many saw the November election as a referendum on President Obama’s — and Democrats’ — policies, Schultz insisted to her audience that “the voters agree with us.”

“We know that where you could see by referendum the questions like increasing the minimum wage, like equal pay for equal work, like making sure that women’s health care was not unnecessarily restricted, Democratic policies were supported by voters and Republican policies were rejected,” the DNC chairwoman told reporters following the meeting. “We have evidence, by voter turnout and election results, that voters do agree with us on that.”

She emphasized to her crowd that Democrats need to better maintain the “connection and motivation” among voters next time around.

Schultz certainly didn’t hide her distress after her party’s stark losses.

“All of us in the last few weeks have had difficulty answering the question ‘How are you?'” she said dramatically. “I’m sure each of you has gone through a similar experience.”

Though the Florida congresswoman dubbed the midterm election results “sobering,” they apparently didn’t sober her up enough to make her realize that the majority of voters who went to the polls no longer “agree” with Democrats.
