Dear conservative high school graduates, you can succeed at your liberal college

Dear conservative high school graduates,

Congratulations on graduating and moving onto the university of your choice. You’re about to start a journey at one of the most divisive venues in our society: the college campus. As many of you know, the American university has experienced some tumultuous times throughout the years. However, do not be afraid. While many colleges are overwhelming liberal and left-leaning, the only way conservatives can change the campus climate is to stand strong in their values and principles.

As a current college senior, I have experienced first-hand liberal bias. However, I have not let these run-ins define me or sway my way of thinking. As a life-long conservative, I was obviously afraid of being alone on a college campus. Like many other conservative students, I had a fear that I could be targeted by professors or my fellow students. However, I urge you not to be afraid. If you argue with facts, logic, and reason, you will not have anything to fear. Come to campus armed with facts.

The only way for you to change your campus climate is to roll up your sleeves and come prepared to work. In doing so, you will fight against anti-intellectual diversity and those who wish to stifle freedom of thought. I urge you to question your professors and your fellow students, always armed with facts. While many stories have highlighted how you will face discrimination, do not let that hinder you.

Most importantly, college campuses are desperately in need of young conservatives. The only way to change many of the stereotypes of college campuses is for you — the brave, young conservative — to take it head on. While you might be afraid of receiving an overwhelmingly liberal biased education, I suggest you research conservative ideologies and viewpoints on your own so that you may rebuke your professor. Even if you don’t openly question your fellow students or professors, you will come away better suited compared to those who sit idly by.

To conquer the next four years of your life, stand firm in what you believe. Come prepared to be singled out just by the way you think. However, most importantly, come prepared with facts and reason to dismantle any argument or insult that comes your way.

For Liberty,

Mason
