In a truly eye-roll inducing move, a handful of A-list Hollywood actresses have paired up with moveon.org to attack Mitt Romney and Republicans for being anti-woman. The predictable ad features three tinsel town starlets dramatically addressing women by looking directly into the camera and saying things like “Mitt Romney is for ending funding to Planned Parenthood.”
Noted Obama supporters Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington have decided to lend their voices to getting Obama reelected by participating in this new video titled “Vote.” In an attempt to have a candid talk about women and Mitt Romney, the move on.org ad is full of lies and misleading generalities about Romney and Republicans.
“Mitt Romney is for ending funding to Planned Parenthood,” Eva Longoria says into the camera with a concerned face. The problem is, her statement is only partially true and very deceptive. Mitt Romney advocates the cessation of federal funding (i.e. taxpayer dollars) to Planned Parenthood, the leading abortion provider in the United States.
Mitt Romney cannot stop, nor does he intend to, a private donor giving of his or her earnings to Planned Parenthood. What he does not agree with is the mandating of tax payer dollars to go to a highly controversial organization that provides life-ending procedures.
But viewers don’t get that kind of transparency from that from the ad. Instead, Johansson comes on screen after Longoria, stating “including cancer screenings.” Yes, these actresses wish for women to believe Mitt Romney is against women getting cancer screenings.
Johansson outright lies in another statement when she says, “We have Republicans trying to redefine rape.” She is likely referring to Republican Missouri Republican Todd Akin’s gross misstatement in August when he told a radio host that “legitimate rape” rarely causes pregnancy.
Akin backtracked and explained that he had received bad medical information before making the claim, but not before he was excoriated by just about everyone… including Mitt Romney who called for Akin to step down from running for Missouri Senate.
But again, viewers won’t get that kind of truth from the moveon.org ad – women are expected to believe Romney and Republicans want to change the definition of rape and scrap funding for cancer screenings. The women then ask voters to “vote”, “vote,” “vote for Barack Obama.”
But if women should be scared of anyone, it’s Barack Obama; during his first term, more than 5 million women are out of work and 15 percent of the nation is in poverty.
