Former President Bill Clinton must have been channeling his best Joe “Shotgun” Biden impression on Tuesday, pushing the benefits of shotguns instead of assault weapons.
During a Q&A session at Georgetown University on Tuesday, Clinton insisted that shotguns offered better protection for homeowners, especially in urban areas.
“If you live in a city, you’re way better — and you think you need protection of your home — you’re way better off with a shotgun than an assault weapon,” Clinton said. “Trust me. It’s not even close.”
He claimed the difference in opinion about assault weapons was mainly a difference in views between rural and urban Americans. Clinton also stressed that background check legislation would eventually pass in Congress, even though the Manchin-Toomey bill failed in the Senate last week.
