Don’t play AOC’s game — it’s a trap

A huge portion of the energy from the Left and from the news media is policing our speech, but the speech police don’t actually believe in their own rules. The rules are not guidelines for speech but rather ad hoc traps laid for ideological opponents so as to call them sexist and avoid substantive debate on issues.

We got a reminder of this today from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Here’s her tweet knocking Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1472624829362757634This is a fine tweet from the congresswoman. I am fond of “you guys said we were crazy, but now facts have proven us right” tweets. It’s one major purpose of Twitter. But I mention this tweet because of the way AOC referred to the senator from West Virginia.

She calls him simply “Manchin.”

Why is that noteworthy? Well, look back at one of her viral tweets from last fall:
Were the congresswoman from New York to follow her own rules, she would feel bound to refer to her government colleague as “Sen. Manchin.” But of course, she doesn’t follow her own unreasonable rule — not on Twitter, and not on television.

In this MSNBC clip, she calls her government colleague “Joe Manchin” four times and “Manchin” once.

Back when Ocasio-Cortez told President Donald Trump not to call her AOC, she got a flood of adoring press. “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Sets The Record Straight On Who Can Call Her AOC.”

And she did the same thing to Mike Pence.
Ocasio-Cortez makes rules for others that she never follows and never had any intention of following, then proclaims it sexism when men don’t follow her rules and brings floods of opprobrium on ideological opponents who violate her “rules.”

Remember, our speech police are dirty cops. Their rules aren’t rules, they are identity politics tripwires. Don’t play their game — it’s a trap.
