Just one month after violent protesters attempted to storm Tomi Lahren’s speech at the University of New Mexico, students and activists held another protest against my speech “How Men Can Fight For Life.”
Hosted by the university’s Turning Point USA and Students for Life chapters, the event last week sparked fury on campus. While hundreds of protesters gathered outside, they weren’t permitted to enter the building by 100 law enforcement officers and campus security personnel.
ARIZONA OFFICIALS ‘DEEPLY CONCERNED’ ABOUT VOTER INTIMIDATION AT BALLOT BOXES
Prevented from repeating their destructive antics of one month prior, the protesters had to settle for their fallback option: hurling abuse at those attending the event, as well as me personally.
Having to be escorted on and off the premises by armed security in order to speak to students just 24 hours after I gave a similar speech on a different college campus without even a hint of protest, was surreal, to say the least — and made more absurd by the allegations leveled by the angry crowd.
Chants such as “f*** Turning Point,” “abort TPUSA,” and “f***ing fascists” were partnered with hastily prepared (and ill-researched) signs with slogans such as “keep your politics out of our bodies,” “you’re pro-life until they are born,” and — inexplicably — “abort my balls,” demonstrating a stunning lack of understanding or interest in what I actually believed.
If the students and activists screaming outside had bothered to attend the speech — tickets were free and easily available for all — they would have heard me condemn men in our society who are, in my opinion, largely responsible for the epidemic of abortion through their pursuit of consequence-free sex.
Surely the angry feminists wouldn’t have thought “no uterus, no opinion” then?
They would have also heard me condemn the Right’s often dispassionate attitude toward the circumstances of abortion for many women in our country, as well as the fact that conservatives need to engage with communities before the thought of abortion even enters someone’s mind if we hope to make cultural strides.
But, of course, those screaming “fascist” on the steps outside the event aren’t interested in hearing any opposing views — let alone allowing others to do the same.
Because while they falsely label people like me as “fascist,” fascism is their ultimate goal. As they masquerade under the laughably inaccurate claim that their actions are examples of peaceful protests, their true objective is to use mob-based intimidation in order to make life on campus inhospitable for anyone who doesn’t adhere to radical leftist ideology.
As I noted during my speech, a speech I will publish this week on my Substack, it’s easy in the long term for individuals like me who appear to be the focus of such protests. Yes, it was my name being condemned and my face lazily stuffed inside a cartoon uterus to demonstrate … something.
But after the speech was over, I went home. Meanwhile, those who attended the speech were already home.
And that’s the key difference we need to acknowledge, the difference that uncovers the reality of on-campus fascism. It’s not about bullying groups such as Turning Point USA or Students for Life, groups that should be celebrated for steadfastly standing up to this nonsense.
No, it’s about bullying individuals on campus into silence. It’s about making their mere existence on campus difficult, embarrassing, and even dangerous. And why? Because our ideas are the right ideas, and they know it.
