Remember when prominent Democrats insisted that we should “believe women” when they complain about sexual harassment? Well, apparently, that goes out the window when they accuse a person who identifies as transgender.
The Supreme Court is set to hear a case this month involving a biologically male, transgender-identifying youth athlete from West Virginia, where ACLU attorneys representing this athlete will argue that bans on male athletes from girls sports are discriminatory and unconstitutional. This is already a wild stretch and an unpopular, radical hill to die on. But the story just got even messier for progressives as the biologically male transgender athlete at the center of this case was just accused of sexual harassment by female competitors.
“When Adaleia first told us, she told us that [the trans athlete] was telling her and other girls ‘s*** my d***,’” the mother of a female athlete told Fox News. “[The trans athlete] was saying to her, coming up and saying to her, ‘I’m going to stick my d*** in your p**** and also in your a**.’ At different times [the trans athlete] was saying these things to her.”
To be clear, the athlete denies all allegations, and they are unproven.
“Our client and her mother deny these allegations, and the school district investigated the allegations reported to the school by A.C. and found them to be unsubstantiated,” the ACLU said in a statement. “We remain committed to defending the rights of all students under Title IX, including the right to a safe and inclusive learning environment free from harassment and discrimination.”
I have no idea if these allegations are true, and everyone, transgender or not, is entitled to the presumption of innocence. But it is deeply ironic to see progressive activists suddenly doubting women’s accusations and stressing the importance of innocent-until-proven-guilty. Where was that attitude during #MeToo?
More broadly, this turns what was already a losing issue for Democrats into even more of a mess. And it’s not just the ACLU that’s involved here — 130 prominent elected Democrats weighed in on the pending Supreme Court case, filing a brief in support of the transgender athlete. As Fox reports, this includes major Democratic leaders such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
“Categorical bans — such as the bans in West Virginia and Idaho — undermine those protections and the ability of transgender students to be part of their school community,” the brief argues.
Even apart from the new accusations, this is madness. It puts top Democrats, including possible 2028 presidential candidates, on the fringe, minority side that denies biological reality and compromises fairness and safety for female athletes to appease radical activists.
GENDER INDOCTRINATION WARS: THE COURTS STRIKE BACK
The polling on this is truly brutal. A January 2025 New York Times survey found that 79% of the public agreed that athletes born male should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports. That’s nearly eight in 10 Americans! Heck, even 67% of Democratic-leaning respondents agreed.
Democrats pride themselves on being open-minded, empathetic, and socially tolerant. But while open-mindedness is a virtue, if you’re too open-minded, your brain might fall out. And that’s exactly what has happened to the huge chunk of the Democratic Party that continues to die on this bizarre and radical hill.
