Finally, justice for detransitioners — and women

The text of the Hippocratic Oath has changed over the years. It is often abbreviated to the famous phrase, “First, do no harm.”

For the ethical doctor, these words aren’t just an oath — they are a command. They are meant to make even the smartest men pause and question what they are doing, why they are doing it, and who they are doing it to. The people in white coats are supposed to offer up solutions to our healing, not our self-destruction.

And yet, we have seen light shed on the seedy underbelly of those scientists we assumed we could trust, manipulating and damaging minors to pad their wallets or gain political points with a small but loud minority.

But now, we have a legal precedent for justice in these situations, one that will hopefully be the beginning of the end of these atrocities.

A 22-year-old woman, Fox Varian, now a detransitioner from New York, just won the first jury-decided case for $2 million in damages with an additional $400,000 for future medical needs. She specifically sued her psychologist and surgeon for pressuring her to get a double mastectomy in 2019.

The doctors said it was Fox who first identified herself as a man and said she wanted her breasts removed. But, the testimony by the victim and her mother demonstrated that both professionals consistently pushed them toward her getting the “top surgery” and even used manipulative and fear-inducing rhetoric to her mother, saying that Fox would kill herself if she could not transition and identify as a boy.

Despite the defense’s claims that Miss Varian was the one who pushed the idea, the jury was able to see the facts that these men, who were supposed to “first do no harm,” ignored other major underlying issues the young woman was dealing with.

Eating disorders, depression, ADHD, and body dysmorphia are all serious challenges Fox was dealing with. Instead of investigating and treating those problems in less invasive and permanent ways, the doctors pushed an innocent minor into an almost irreversible, physically altering surgery.

Ignoring the needs of women has unfortunately been pretty common in medicine since its founding

From spending more research on erectile dysfunction in comparison to the money spent on perimenopause and other women’s health issues to the suffering of women with endometriosis, there are too many examples of how men in white lab coats often do more harm than good toward our nation’s women.

It’d be nice if the Left would highlight the major changes needed in modern medicine to identify, research, and fix the problems of women. But instead, they choose to defend the mutilation of young girls in the name of “equality.”

MR TRUMP, TEAR DOWN THE KENNEDY CENTER

As a mother of three girls who sees the risks they face in society every day, I pray our judicial system gives some level of restoration, even if it’s only monetary, to the many girls let down by the many men and women in medicine who have broken their oath to heal and not harm.
