President Joe Biden told reporters that he supported some restrictions on abortion but did not elaborate while leaving the White House Thursday.
Biden has made abortion a top issue heading into the midterm elections, and he consistently calls on voters to put abortion “on the ballot” should Congress fail to codify Roe v. Wade into law before November.

“Yes, there should be,” Biden said when asked if he supports “any restrictions on abortion at all.”
“Roe v. Wade,” the president continued when pressed to elaborate. “Read it, man. You’ll get educated.”
RNC CHAIR SAYS GOP CANDIDATES “HAVE TO ADDRESS” ABORTION BUT DOESN’T WANT TO DISCUSS NATIONAL BANS
A majority of the country supports codifying Roe, and Republicans have sought to counter voter sentiment on the subject by claiming national Democrats want to institute federal protections for abortion up to the time of birth.
“They do believe that abortion should take place on a woman’s due date,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in an interview with the Washington Examiner. “I think most voters think that’s egregious, that when a baby can live, that you shouldn’t be having an abortion, it shouldn’t be taxpayer-funded.”
Brooke Goren, a DNC spokeswoman, told the Washington Examiner in turn that “Ronna McDaniel can’t spin the unspinnable.”

“Over 100 congressional Republicans have signed on to support Lindsey Graham’s national abortion ban,” Goren continued. “It doesn’t stop there — Republicans in states across the country are loudly discussing policies that could ban birth control and even IVF treatments.”
