Longtime Washington, D.C., Democrat Denise Rucker Krepp criticized her own party for its stance on criminal reform and believes more police are needed to combat a “crime surge.”
Krepp, an advisory neighborhood commissioner whose ward represents close to 2,500 D.C. residents, said she is puzzled by D.C. Democrats’ push for a sweeping reform of the criminal code, which would reduce sentences and give those convicted of murder and rape opportunities for early release 20 years into their sentence, among other provisions.

“We’re in the middle of a crime surge,” Krepp told Fox News in an interview on Dec. 17. “I’ve had in the past year: Two murders, multiple armed carjackings, stabbings, shootings, and now home invasion. Not good, not good at all. And by the way, armed carjacking in front of my house. That really pissed me off.”
She has been fighting for stricter laws on crime for a decade, she said, despite being unpaid and having no staff. She frequently tweets out the number of carjackings from the beginning and end of the week.
DC POLICE INVESTIGATING HOME INVASION AFTER SUSPECTS PRETENDED TO BE FBI
Last week, Krepp called out the D.C. City Council for its criminal reform bill via Twitter, stating it was a “failure” after four armed suspects posed as FBI agents and broke into a home in Krepp’s ward, stealing nearly $20,000 in stolen property.
“Good morning DC Council. The Revised Criminal Code which you passed last month enables the burglars who bound up my residents this morning to be released early from prison,” she tweeted. “You call the bill progress. I call it a failure.”

Krepp said she thinks the new law provisions will deprive prosecutors of the tools needed to fight crime and effectively punish criminals.

She added that the crime issue in D.C. applies to people of all political affiliations.
“I think it has to come down to every single person being impacted, and that’s what’s happening in my single-member district,” she said.
“I don’t have enough fingers to count all the crimes that have occurred, and that’s why my constituents are saying enough is enough,” Krepp added. “We need help. We need more police on the streets. We need more prosecutions.”
